The future of competitions: tell them what they need

The architectural magazine Conditions held a ‘competition on competitions’, asking the profession to submit reviews and proposals for reinventing the institution of architectural competitions. Markus Miessen, Gary Bates and Boris Brorman Jensen were asked to judge, comment and reflect upon the submitted proposals.

 

‘Unfortunately no “final solutions” to the struggle for better conditions for architectural competitions are found – but mounted side by side on the gallery wall the different suggestions represented a framework for possible ways to rethink and reform architectural competitions. At least seven categories or trajectories of future investigations con be identified.’
