The building is conceived as a raw and rather simple frame that provides the maximum amount of physical space and flexibility that the budget will allow but is optimally geared for the following stage of artistic decoration and outfitting. The interior construction details and the climate screen are designed to provide a neutral framework around the inner structure, whose material expression, character and tactile qualities are open to being shaped and developed in a future phase. All the subsequent artistic decoration and outfitting will take place inside the climate screen, which makes it possible to incorporate recycled materials and other unconventional elements.
The floor plan is constructed around the two ‘black boxes’ that make up the theatre’s main hall and rehearsal hall and a multi-purpose hall. The other production rooms and administrative offices are stacked two floors high around the three ’boxes’. The amount of walking space has been minimized to make as much room as possible for informal niches and inserted spaces to be used for a variety of activities and as future experimental development spaces. For example, the space that has been inserted on top of the multi-purpose hall has not been allocated for a specific purpose but enables a future added function or a new balcony space in connection with the main hall.
The overall expression is a geometrically simple but highly evocative volume with clear references to the unique atmosphere of the stage. An efficient and raw 360° theatre machine, free to develop its inner stage design over the years to come as a unique theatre universe.
From the outset, the expansion of the existing Limfjordsteater and the physical link between the theatre, the upper secondary schools Morsø Gymnasium, EUC, VUC/HF and the theatre Morsø Teater has been driven by a vision of developing and challenging the physical, functional, didactic and artistic settings for the educational institutions, the two theatres and, not least, the related volunteer associations. For several years, Limfjordsteatret has been a dynamic driving force, especially for cultural initiatives in Morsø Municipality.
