TALK ABOUT THE PROJECT ‘THE WAYS OF WATER’
In recent years, Denmark has seen periods of intense precipitation, which is creating challenges both in cities and in the countryside. Moreover, Denmark is a small country, where many different interests compete for space – interests which usually do not include finding a place to safely deposit large amounts of water. We need to explore possibilities and barriers – technical, legal and in terms of planning – to allow the water to flow more freely.
The City of Odense, the water and wastewater utility VCS Denmark, Aarhus School of Architecture, GEUS, the Danish Association of Architects and the Danish Bar and Law Society have launched a joint project with the working title ‘Vandets Veje’ (The Ways of Water), financed by the Dreyer Foundation. Vandets Veje aims to explore the possibilities of introducing a more nature-driven approach to water management in Denmark and present proposals for making the necessary legal and administrative revisions to enable the transition to a more holistic approach.
The talk was a joint presentation with Uffe Linneberg Gangelhof, project manager at VCS Denmark, given to Det Nationale Netværk for Klimatilpasning (the National Network for Climate Adaptation), DNNK, about the project and the possibilities of a nature-driven approach to water management in Denmark.
