‘The explosive economic growth that has taken place in Asia over the last two decades has enabled an urbanization process so expansive and qualitatively unprecedented that it seems virtually apocalyptic in the perspective of Western European civilization. Especially in the recently industrialized countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia, the cities have been linked up to the global flow of capital and been virtually catapulted into the 21st century. That is the assessment of architect Boris Brorman Jensen, whose PhD thesis involves a case study of Bangkok’s new highline, the Sukhumvit line.’
