PRESENTATION ON THE PROJECT ‘THE WAYS OF WATER’

Half-day conference organized by the Danish Association of Architects, East Jutland, as part of the project ‘Arkitekturens Stemme’ (The Voice of Architecture). The topic of the conference was how best to approach climate adaptation in our cities, including whether our long-term strategy should be based on inviting the water into our cities rather than building ever taller walls to keep the water out.

‘To secure the future development of cities and landscapes, we need to make far-sighted political decisions. To that end, it is important to anchor the dialogue in the political domain, as this is where the prioritization takes places, even if the legislation passes a large share of the cost of climate adaptation to the affected land-owners. In the closing debate, politicians from the affected municipalities took part in a dialogue about a far-sighted approach to climate adaptation.’

The conference included presentations by Nina Baron, sociologist and associate professor in the emergency and risk management programme at University College Copenhagen, architect Lotta Tiselius (MAA), architect Boris Brorman Jensen and Associate Professor Katrina Wiberg, MA (Architecture) (MDL), as well as statements from Councillor Jens Peter Hansen, Randers Municipality (the Liberal Party of Denmark) and Councillor Niels Basballe (the Social Democratic Party), deputy chairman of the Committee for Technology and Environment in Norddjurs Municipality.
