TALK ABOUT THE WAYS OF WATER

TALK ABOUT THE WAYS OF WATER

‘The coordination of water management, urban space qualities and strategic urban goals requires coordination among different professions, working processes and decision-making chains in municipal administrations, utility companies and other relevant organisations. Rising sea levels and growing populations are presenting urban areas with unprecedented challenges, which are further exacerbated by the irrefutable and, not least, unpredictable consequences. That calls for a holistic long-term effort to plan the encounter of water and city. How do we ensure efficient processes and a common understanding among the professions involved in managing water and urban planning? How do we adapt projects to match the political and economic reality and handle unpredictable events? These are some of the questions that are addressed in this webinar, as we review some of the early front-runner projects involving close cooperation among utilities, municipalities and other actors with the goal of creating added value in climate adaptation projects.’

Watercities 2030 webinar ‘Når vandet møder strategisk byudvikling’ (When Water Meets Strategic Urban Development) was organized by Smith Innovation, the Danish Town Planning Institute and Realdania. Other presenters included Søren Gabriel, head of development at WSP; Uffe Linneberg Gangelhof, project director at VandCenter Syd; and Søren Smidt-Jensen of Smith Innovation.
