URBAN QUALITY DEBATE

URBAN QUALITY DEBATE

What are the pros and cons of small vs. big building sites – from the perspective of the municipal administration, the developer and other private actors? Do large building sites automatically lead to poorer urban quality, or is it the other way around? How is the price of urban quality improvements determined? Who is going to pay for them? And do we need new instruments in the supply phase to ensure more flexible processes?

The City of Aarhus wants to provide optimal opportunities for all the actors involved in developing the city. Every step in the effort to make Aarhus an even more liveable city must be brought into play.

With this event, the City of Aarhus hopes to initiate a debate about the connection between the size of building sites and the perceived urban quality in the built city. The resulting learning points will be applied in the ongoing development of the city, large site development projects and thus in the City’s general efforts to promote smart growth in the years leading up to 2050.
